Rites of Spring is written by Modris Elkstiens, in this he is talking about the Great war and differnet aspects of how the war is fought.the beggingin he speaks of how the war was traditionally fought. He talks about the different war machines that were used and how impactful they were when they destroyed buildings and when they would destroy trenches during war. Then he goes on to speak of the different styles of war and how they are fought. War transitionined from a "funk hole" type of war to a attrition type where the atacker wanted to exhaust it's opponent. With this they found that it wasn't a valid type of and caused mor ecasualties. Then came the deaths of war and a question of, How do you define the horror of war of one person. The deaths of this war were unbearable. One soldier actually took a picture of the death of one soldier to prove how close he was to death. The things seen often had a lasting effect on the soldiers that were at war.
Then there was the chapter,Soldier's Home this chapter basically showed the aftermath of a soldier anmed Kerbs. He felt like he wasnt really living the life he expected and it was basically a lie.He went to war and came back a chamnged man.
These stories relate in the aspect of the actual war and what happens after the war.The Great War was a very gruesome and horrifying war. Some if the things seen in the war are what you think wouuld only be seen in movies but this actually happened. This causes a typical soldier to change after the war which happened to Krebs. The various things seen changes a person's view on life.
